Celebrating autumn 🍂 (Celebrating autumn 🍂

Dear friends,

October is here and migration is in full swing! Right now, birds are arriving from colder climes, filling our hedgerows, grasslands and wetlands with their calls. Whilst fieldfares and redwings (hardy thrushes from the north and east) plunder berries and fallen fruit. Listen for the high-pitched ‘tseeep’ of redwings migrating overhead at night.

Hordes of whistling wigeon and teal are also arriving on mass, bringing life to our marshes. Whilst snipe melt into the autumnal vegetation at the edge of the water. On sunny days, common darter and migrant hawker dragonflies can still be seen, until the first frosts arrive.

Autumn is the perfect time to enjoy the outdoors and spot some amazing wildlife. Visit the link below to discover the best of Yorkshire's wildlife this season.

Blue Carbon Report

Last month, we unveiled a series of landmark reports that reveal UK and Isle of Man seabed habitats store a whopping 244 million tonnes of carbon in just the top 10cm of the seabed!

Produced in partnership with the Scottish Association for Marine Science, WWF-UK and RSPB, these reports contain the first comprehensive estimate of blue carbon in the UK and Isle of Man’s seas and Marine Protected Areas.

The UK is the first nation to map its seabed carbon both inside and outside of protected areas. This ground-breaking research could be world-leading in helping to protect blue carbon

Common Grounds day of action

This Autumn, join thousands of people around the UK in meeting with your local MP to find Common Ground on the climate and nature issues important to them.

At Yorkshire Wildlife Trust we are supporting The Climate Coalition in their Common Grounds day of action on 12th October. This is an opportunity to connect with your Community, tell your story, and urge your MP to champion climate and nature issues you care about.

We are calling on communities to show our politicians that there are many people across Yorkshire who want our elected officials to leave behind a legacy of projects, that help to create a fairer, healthier future which is good for us, good for nature and good for the climate.

If you would like to take part in the day of action, you can sign up below.
